PaperLady Mojo Sketch Challenge Week 4

This is that last week of my sketch challenges, so c'mon ladies, have a go!
The sketch is on the side bar at the left.

This week's challenge is to use a monochromatic scheme plus a neutral.  That means one colour plus one neutral.  You can use shades of the same colour (i.e. you could stamp off to get a lighter shade of the same colour).  You can also turn your card on it's side (Tracy did last week, see the previous post). 

My sample uses Cherry Cobbler with Whisper White as the neutral.  I've put my gold cord horizontally as opposed to the vertical ribbon in the sketch, used more layers, and the focus shape is rectangular rather than a circle.

Sketch Challenge No. 1

Sometimes we need a little help to get going on a card.  Yes, we know we want to make a card, but we've got so much stuff that it's hard to decide exactly what to use and therefore what to do!    I look at the array of stamp sets in my craft room and honestly feel overwhelmed by the possibilities.  Then, before I know it, I'm going from one thing to the next in a flibbity gibbity way and not actually achieving very much!  I think you know what I mean.

So, as a means of finding a starting point, I'm going to give you a challenge.  Every Thursday during October I will post a sketch challenge.  You can interpret it any way you like and can use any materials unless I specify a colour or subject theme. 

Once you've created your card, email me a picture (or call me and I'll come photograph it for you if you're nearby) and I'll post it here.   I must receive your entry by midnight on 13 October.  You can then all vote for your favourite by sending me an email and the winner will get a little something nice for their efforts.  

You don't have to do all the challenges, but if you do, I will give you a coupon for free shipping on your next SU order!

Sketch Thursday

This week has been all about Mojo's, so I thought I'd continue the trend and post a sketch that you might like to try.   It's not sophisticated like Split Coast, nor is there a Mr Linky to attach it to anything, but it might be fun to have a go anyway.    Of course if you want to share your creation, you can always send me a comment with a link to your own blog, just to show off!!

I will give this sketch to my class participants this month.  And they can vote on their favourite and the winner will get a small prize.  Don't know what it will be yet, maybe a new marker or a length of new ribbon or something along those lines.  

Remember, it's just for fun, and the goal is de-stress!  So don't overthink it.

Current Mojo Challenge

For my regular Friday stampers class,  if you missed the Mojo handout (or the class) last week, here's the new Mojo sketch for our swap cards on 18 June.    Feel free to interpret the sketch your way.    You don't have to use Stampin' Up! products either.   Even if you don't come to my classes, feel free to have a go at the sketch.  Remember, it doesn't matter where you find your mojo - as long as you find it!

Mojo Results

Last week at our regular class, everyone brought in their first Mojo challenge.  All the ladies had done a wonderful job - for some, it was their first time.  I thought I'd share their creativity with you here and hopefully inspire others to have a go at trying something new.

Before I show you the pictures, I'd like to tell you that the brief & sketch are in a post back on April 9.  The idea was a very simple one, with the main purpose being to encourage crafters to get out the things they already have and use some of the skills we've been doing in classes.

Here's the results:

Susie's cards - she made two designs for us to choose from.  Love the use of the rhinestones on the thank you card.

Avril also gave us options with 2 designs.  The picture really doesn't do the fairy justice.

This is Laurel's card.  She also made a couple of options but I didn't get pictures of them all.  Don't you love the black & red combo?  And that flower - lovely.

Kristen's card is on the right here.  She's experimenting with the vintage look & has a stash of gorgeous stamps (the postage kind) and old cigarette cards.

Well done ladies!  Love your work!

Mojo, Mojo, Mojo - For Beginners

In addition to workshops & classes, I hope to inspire my customers to try something new with their own stash of stamps & paper craft supplies when they go home.  With that in mind, I issued a challenge today to my regular group of ladies.  It goes like this:    Using the basic sketch template below, make one card using only supplies you have on hand.   IF you want to step it up a notch, make 4 of the same design (more if you like), and we'll hold a swap at the next class on 23rd April. 

This template can be found on the Stampin' Up! Demonstrator website.  Another perk of being a demo is that we have access to all sorts of special goodies - think about it, you should join!

Now, this is a basic sketch because you may have never attempted anything like this before.  However, if you have, feel free to step it up any way you like.  But remember, simple cards can be very eye-catching and effective, so don't feel you have to do more than the basic shapes are indicating.

Lastly, this challenge is open to anyone.  So if you can't get to a class but still want to play, please post a comment with a link to your creation.

Notice how we haven't used any embellishments on the cards?  That's not to say you can't, but if you want to keep it simple, let the stamped images and/or the patterned paper speak for themselves.   By colouring the stamps with markers, you can get a number of colours on one image - cute on the bird & it also gives the greeting some definition on the same card.
