April Card Making Class - Gate Fold

Next week's April card making class will focus on a gate fold style of card.

We'll be playing with the Oh So Succulent suite of products from the current Occasions catalogue.

The Designer Series Paper has some lovely colours:  Calypso Coral, Mint Macaron, Tip Top Taupe, Sweet Sugarplum, Old Olive and Whisper White.

The patterns are lovely, with some small detailed and repetitive, like stripes and plaid, while others are soft and floral, echoing the designs of the succulents in the stamp set and framelits (bundle and save $).

Watercolour Words Stamp Set

This gorgeous photopolymer set features in my November technique class.  What's photopolymer? It's a transparent material that makes is easy to line up images for creating unique stamped projects.

I love this set because it is suitable for a lot of different occasions with it's different sentiments.  The font is really lovely, and it has a watercolour feel even when you simply stamp it with ink.

But by adding watercolouring to the images - especially the flowers, you can create something really eye catching - and that's what you'll learn in my class.  Visit the class page for more information.

And while I've got you here, take a closer look at the picture.  This is the cover of the stamp set box that you get when you purchase these stamps.  It shows you which are the best blocks to use with the stamps and this makes gathering supplies so much easier.

Silhouettes Class Last Night.

We had a great class last night doing a couple of different silhouette techniques.

This first card uses Serene Silhouettes stamped in black over a background of Crushed Curry ink using one of the stamps from Work of Art.  It's so simple, and you can dress it up in many different ways.

Here's a different look using Tangerine Tango and another stamp from the Serene Silhouettes.

Our second card was all about creating a silhouette using a die cut and a frame.

Cutting frames can be quite tricky if you're not good with a ruler and a craft knife.  Enter the Stampin' Trimmer.

This clever cutting tool gives you the ability to cut frames from any size of cardstock up to 30.5cm (12").

And with the point on the cutting handle/blade you can be sure that your measurements are spot on every time.

Sneak Peek at this Weeks Card Making Class

This Thursday evening one of our projects is a Tri-Fold card.  This is one take on a Tri-Fold design that I absolutely love.  The idea comes from Mandyb on SCS.

Your Once, Twice, Three Times a Stamper...!

This is a new technique that's quite popular right now.  So much so that it will be incorporated into my next classes on 2 & 7 November.  Check out the class page at the right of this post for more info.

It's called Triple Time, for fairly obvious reasons, and you can get all sorts of looks depending on the stamps and colours you choose.

This one was my first attempt and I like how it turned out. 

It uses Spiced Paisley stamps in Gumball Green, Midnight Muse & More Mustard.  The card base and mats are Crumb Cake, and the stamped layers, Whisper White.   I chose the sentiment from Best Dad Ever because it's a card that I think would work for a male, not too fussy, not too pretty!

This is one of my favourite sets - Creative Elements.

 I LOVE that flower. And it's stamped in Elegant Eggplant, and I'm a fan of purple.  The flourish from the same set was done in Melon Mambo.  The sentiment looked a bit lost so I put a flare on it with the rhinestones.  Tip:  when you get your rhinestone jewels from SU, they come in 4 different sizes.  The smallest ones are in 3 rows.  They are attached together, with 21 in each row and designed to be used that way.  I've seen so many people cut them into singles, only to reassemble them in a row!!! Funny eh?!

Finally, I had to do a Christmas Triple Time using Scentsational Season. 

Crumb Cake, Gumball Green & Real Red are the ink colours.  I added some glitz to the gingerbread man so his little buttons would stand out.  The greeting is from For My Family.  A great set for everyone!

Individual Spin

I love the way people interpret things differently.  It's endlessly fascinating and if you take the time to question why (in any scenario), it's quite an eye opener to discover what motivates people to do things.
Of course, if you look deeply, you'll find answers that go beyond basic likes/dislikes.  Some are complex, some are not.

That said, I'd like to share a photo of one of the projects we made at class last night.   It shows how each person has put their own spin on the card.  I can tell you there was a lot of giggling going on.......no names mentioned, you know who you are!! 

Top of the challenge list for a lot of people is the torn paper technique.   It takes a while to become comfortable with the "messy" or random shapes that torn paper creates, and in fact, despite the actual tearing activity, I still believe you need to create a finished piece that looks balanced.  But is that a contradiction?  We also discovered (in class) that having long nails affects the end result.  Who knew?!

Here's the pic.    I won't ID the makers - they know who they are.    But pay attention to the differences.  After tomorrows class I'll post a pic of my sample.   We are very interesting, us crafters!
